DCC Takes Care of Yellowstone Christian 87-85
Dawson Community College snapped a four game losing streak with an 87-85 win over Yellowstone Christian College. The Centurions defeated the Bucs a few weeks ago in Billings by five, but tonight belonged to the Buccaneers who hit the boards hard early on, collecting 8 offensive rebounds in the opening half and scored 12 second-chance points. Outside shooting kept YCC in the game as they hit 7 of 21 from long range. The Bucs only managed to make 1 of their 14 3-point shots in the first half. Despite the poor shooting, DCC held a 42-40 advantage at the break.
The Centurions hot shooting continued in the 2nd half as Stefan Tellis got hot and connected on 4 for deep. Gavin McPherson had the answer for the Bucs as he hit 5 from long range. Kolton Wall also provided a scoring presence in the high post, down in the paint and from outside. DCC kept the lead for most of the 2nd half. Late in the game Daniel Shedden and Stefan Stubbs had some big plays going to the hoop in the closing minutes. McPherson and Brent Finn connected on free-throws in the last 20 seconds to help ice the victory. YCC’s desperation attempt from past half-court fell short and the Buccaneers celebrated the win.
Tellis led the visitors with 21 points. Aaron Munday Rashi scored 19 and Fabricio Daher Valdivia contributed 17. Kolton Wall led the Bucs with 25 points and 9 rebounds. Gavin McPherson had 19 and Brendon Chevannes had 11 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists, all in the first half. The Bucs took care of the ball with only 9 turnovers and forced 19 turnovers from YCC, scoring 24 points off those turnovers.
This was Yellowstone Christian’s last game before the Christmas Break.
The Buccaneers will take a short break for Final Exams before playing at Miles Community College next Friday, December 16th.
