DCC’s Tyrick Thompson to play at McMaster University
DCC Guard Tyrick Thompson will be transferring to play at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario next year. A 6’0 165 lb guard, Thopmson originally hails from Kitchener, Ontario, but has spent the past two years playing for the DCC Buccaneer Basketball team. This past season, Thompson had a season high of 12 points vs. Little Bighorn College and he had a season high of 11 rebounds vs. Eastern Montana All-stars. For the year, he averaged 2.5 ppg and 1.5 rpg.
Thompson had this to say, “I’ve been blessed to spend the past two seasons at DCC learning a lot on and off the court. McMaster is a great environment and Coach Tatham’s style matches my game. I feel like the level of intensity and discipline coach has will help us strive as a team to make noise once the season begins.”
McMaster is a Canadian University with an enrollment of 24,500 students and their athletics teams compete in the Ontario University Athletics Conference which is the preeminent university sport conference in Canada. The Marauders finished in 2nd place in the OUA Central Division last year and in 1st place the previous year.
DCC Coach Joe Peterson was happy for Thompson, “I’m glad he will be able to continue his college basketball career and work towards getting a higher degree. Tyrick is a great young man who has really worked hard on and off the court. I know he will be successful in his future.”
