DCC Loses Another One by Three Points
Dawson defeated by Williston 75-72
For the 2nd straight game the DCC Buccaneers lost by three. This time it took a desperation heave by Williston State’s Tyreese Williford from 28 feet. The Bucs had tied the game with a steal and lay-up by Brendon Chevannes with 25 seconds remaining. Despite leading for most of the way, DCC fell behind in the final 10 minutes. Williston capitalized on 14 DCC turnovers in the 2nd half and also took control of the boards in the final 10 minutes. They built a 10 point lead off of transition baskets and 2nd chances. The Bucs fought back in the closing minutes with strong drives to the basket and forcing a few turnovers of their own.
The home team started strong at the beginning of the game with an early 8-2 lead and controlled the lead for the entire first half. Their largest lead came at 35-25 and they went into the locker room with a 40-33 advantage. Daniel Shedden led the way with 14 points and 7 rebounds. Chevannes added 9 points and 4 assists. Hayden Sadowsky kept the Tetons close by hitting four 3’s in the opening half.
Williston State came back in the 2nd half to outscore the Bucs 42-32. It was a dramatic conclusion to the conference opener for both teams. Shedden finished the game 22 points and 12 rebounds and Stefan Stubbs posted 12 points and 6 rebounds. Williston State had balanced scoring with 6 guys scoring 8 points or more.
DCC will resume conference play on Thursday night on the road at the reigning Mon-Dak Conference and Region XIII Champions, North Dakota State College of Science.
