DCC beats Little Big Horn College 112-70
The DCC Buccaneers moved to 5-2 on the season with an emphatic 112-70 win over Little Big Horn College in the DA Eldrige Classic Tournament in Gillette, Wyoming. Little Big Horn got off to a good start in the game by scoring down low and then hitting some jump shots. They shot 50% in the first half and outrebounded the Bucs 20-17, but with about 8 minutes left in the opening half, DCC began to assert their will on the game. Their defense tightened up as they forced 13 turnovers and capitalized on those turnovers on the other end of the court. Ryan Strong hit a couple of three-pointers from the outside and Stefan Stubbs made some strong moves to the basket. As the clock wound down on the first half, Strong came off a ball-screen and knocked down another open jumper to push the lead to 41-33 at half-time.
The Bucs carried that momentum into the 2nd half where they exploded for 71 points. Their defensive pressure and depth helped to wear down their undermanned opponent. Foul trouble also began to take its toll on Little Big Horn and eventually one of their players fouled out and 3 others collected 4 fouls each. After going scoreless in the first half, Daniel Shedden broke out for 14 points on 6 of 9 shooting in the final half. Kolton Wall also broke out with 16 points in the 2nd half after only getting 3 in the first half. The Bucs placed 5 players in double figures including Strong’s 15, Shedden’s 14, Wall’s 19, Tyrick Thompson’s 12 and Brendon Chevannes had 10. All eleven Buccaneers scored at least 6 points each. DCC only turned the ball over 13 times and forced 26 turnovers out of Little Big Horn. The Bucs shot 50% from the field and 48% from the 3 point line including a blistering 9 for 16 (56%) in the 2nd half. Chevannes added 5 assists and Strong had 4. Bret Vester led the way on the boards with 7 and Kolton Wall contributed 6. The Bucs outscored them in the paint 48-26 and had 20 2nd chance points compared to only 10 for Little Big Horn. Once again, the Buccaneer bench came up huge, outscoring their opponents 61-13.
The Bucs return home on Monday night to play Nueta Hidatsa Sahnish at the Toepke Center at 7:30 pm.
