DCC Men’s Basketball Adds Tyrell Harper to Recruiting Class
Tyrell Harper is the latest addition for DCC Coach Joe Peterson. Harper is a 6’7 multi-skilled player who can play four different positions on the floor. He is a transfer from Iowa Central, where he played during the 2014-2015 season. As a freshman, he averaged 3.5 ppg and 2.2 rpg while shooting 53% from the field. Harper now lives in Florida, but attended high school in Vermillion, South Dakota where he averaged 17 points, 10 rebounds, 7 assists, 2.5 steals and 1.8 blocks per game while shooting 59% from 2 point range and 37% from 3 point range. He led his high school team to the regional finals and was a 2nd Team All-Conference selection.
Harper explained his decision, “I chose Dawson because it felt like family to me, the expectations are high and that’s what builds character. Coach Pete and the coaching staff made me feel at home and let me know what they were building and it’s something I’d love to be a part of. Dawson is a great school and it’s somewhere I can see myself developing as a person and as a player. I’m glad to be a Buccaneer!”
Coach Peterson said, “Tyrell is incredibly talented with his length and skills. He has the potential to be a big-time impact player if he works hard and has the right attitude. He can shoot, pass, handle the ball, rebound and defend. It’s rare at our level to have a player like Tyrell. He can pretty much play any position on the floor.”
