Lake Region handles DCC 78-64
The visiting Lake Region State College Royals took control of the game midway through the first half and their defense held Dawson Community College to only 24 points in the first half. The half ended with a long 25 foot 3 pointer which banked in to give the Royals a 39-24 advantage. The last second shot brought back memories of the shot Williston hit to beat the Buccaneers in their conference home opener exactly 1 week ago. The Bucs just couldn’t seem to get it going in the first half where they shot 0-6 from the 3 point line and 8-30 from the field. Lake Region didn’t shoot much better, but did manage to hit 6 shots from long range.
The Bucs picked it up in the second half, but still couldn’t manage to shoot well from the outside, finishing the game 2 for 21 from 3 point range. They did cut into the lead, but couldn’t quite get over the hump. Lake Region walked away with a 78-64 victory to move to 3-0 in the conference while DCC dropped to 0-3. Rebounds, assists and turnovers were even for both teams, but the Royals outshot the Bucs 41% to 33% from the field and 36% to 9% from the 3 point line. They also got to the free-throw line 11 more times than the home team. Four Royals were in double figures and #25 Harvey Barr pulled down 16 rebounds. For the Bucs, Daniel Shedden had 24 points and 6 rebounds. Kolton Wall posted 12 points. Stefan Stubbs finished with 11 points and 14 rebounds.
DCC will head to Bismarck on Thursday to face United Tribes Technical College. Their next home game will be on Monday night against Dakota College Bottineau.
