DCC drops one to Gillette College
Bucs lose to 73-79 to Gillette
In a closely contested game, the Gillette College Pronghorns pulled away late to defeat Dawson Community College 79-73. Both teams struggled early on and the game remained scoreless for the first couple of minutes before Gillette hit a couple of driving lay-ups to go up four. The Bucs came roaring back on the outside shooting of Gavin McPherson who hit 5 of 5 from behind the arc. Eighteen turnovers by the home team also helped to keep the Bucs in the game. The Pronghorns managed to build a small lead through most of the half, but the Bucs went up by 2 at the half 36-34.
The 2nd half remained close for most of the way, but halfway through, Gillette started getting to the free-throw line and went on a 9-1 run to take control. Foul trouble also started to hurt the Bucs, especially when Daniel Shedden fouled out with 6 minutes remaining. DCC didn’t give up though and fought back to cut the lead to four on a couple of driving lay-ups by Brendon Chevannes with a minute to go. The Pronghorns made some clutch free-throws to secure the 6 point win. They had 5 guys in double figures and shot 46% from the field for the game. They also were 23-35 from the free-throw line. The Buccaneers were led by McPherson’s 22 points on 6 of 7 shooting from the 3 point line. Shedden scored 14 points before fouling out and Chevannes added 12 points and 4 assists.
DCC will remain in Gillette for another game Saturday at 3:00 pm vs. Little Big Horn College before coming home on Monday to play Nueta Hidatsa Sahnish College.
