DCC PG Chevannes Moving on to Concord University
Brendon Chevannes signed a NCAA Letter of Intent to play for Coach Todd May and the Concord University Mountain Lions. Concord is an NCAA Division II program located in Athens, West Virginia and play in the Mountain East Conference which is comprised of teams from around Virginia and West Virginia.
Chevannes is originally from Brampton, Ontario, Canada and graduated high school from Father Henry Carr Secondary School. The 5’10 point guard joined the Bucs in 2015 and has been their starting point guard for most of the past two seasons. This past year he led the Bucs with 5.7 assists per game and 2.1 steals per game and was the 4th leading scorer with 11 points per game in the 27 games he played. His assist-to-turnover ratio was 2-1. In the Region XIII opening round game, he notched 14 points and a season-best 13 assists; and in his final game at Dawson he scored a season-best 23 points in the semifinals against the 10th ranked team in the country, North Dakota State College of Science.
DCC Coach Joe Peterson was excited about the news, “I’m happy for Brendon to get the opportunity to continue his education and continue his basketball career for a good program in a competitive league. He has a lot of talent and has only scratched the surface of his potential. I know Coach May at Concord will bring out the best in him.”
Chevannes added, “Being at Dawson has taught me the value and importance of a player to coach relationship, and with Coach May we have made sure to communicate really well with one another. The school environment looks promising and it’s at a high competitive level and I love that challenge. You learn from them and get better as an individual and I feel like at Concord University the window is open to improve more as a basketball player and, more importantly, as a person.”
Brendon is the 4th Buc to move on to the 4-year level from last year’s team. Gavin McPherson is going to Montana Tech, Daniel Shedden signed at MSU-B and Stefan Stubbs will play at Concordia College.
