DCC Loses to #21 ranked Casper College
Bucs lose 64-89
The Buccaneers took on the 21st best team in the nation and gave them a scare before eventually losing. It was a back and forth first half with Casper College taking a 6 point lead at the 14:40 mark, but the Buccaneers fought back on three-pointers by Brent Finn and Ryan Strong to take a 5 point lead at the 7:15 mark. The Bucs closed out the 1st half with a tip in by Stefan Stubbs to put them up by three points 27-24. The Bucs limited Casper College to 28% shooting in the first half and only 17% from the 3 point line. They didn’t shoot it much better at 29% from the field and 25% from the 3 point line, but by outrebounding them 29-23 and only turning it over 6 times, they managed to take the lead going into intermission. There were 3 ties and 3 lead changes in the opening half.
The 2nd half started similar with a bucket by Stubbs, but Colin Russell made a couple of turnaround jump-shots in the post. Stubbs took an elbow in the eye and had to leave the game with 17 minutes remaining and the Bucs clinging to a 3 point lead at 36-33. It went downhill from there for the Bucs. They struggled to score and the T-Birds got hot from the outside with 3-pointers from Josh McSwiggan and Jack Pagenkopf. Together they combined to go 6 for 8 from long range in the 2nd half. Nothing could slow down the home team in the 2nd half where they shot 69% from the field and 73% from the 3 point line. Thirteen turnovers from the Buccaneers also helped Casper score 23 points off turnovers in the 2nd half alone after getting none in the first half. Once they pushed the lead to double digits the Bucs struggled to keep it a game. The final score was 89-64 with Casper getting their 8th win on the season. Their only loss was to defending National Champion Salt Lake. Daniel Shedden led the way for the Bucs with 21 points. Brent Finn was the only other one in double figures with 10.
The Bucs will play in again in the Foss Motors Thanksgiving Classic Friday night at 5:00 pm against Central Wyoming College.
