Bismarck State Defeats Dawson Community College 84-63 in Regular Season Finale
In the final regular season Mon-Dak Conference game, the Bismarck State Mystics handled the visiting Buccaneers with ease. The first half was pretty balanced with Bismarck taking the early lead and Dawson battling back with an 11-0 run to regain the lead. Bismarck closed the half though on a 14-3 run to go up by 10 at the break 42-32. Neither team shot particularly well from 3-point range, but Bismarck got the ball inside to Usman Haruna for 11 points and forced 10 turnovers which led to several transition baskets.
In the second half, Dawson never got closer than 10 points as Bismarck cruised to a 21 point victory. Haruna finished with 14 points and 19 rebounds. Brody Nieuwsma finished with 20 points and 2 others had double digits for the Mystics. Stefan Stubbs had 18 points and 9 rebounds for the Bucs who finished with 18 turnovers and only made 2 of 15 3-point shots.
These same two teams will face off in the first round of the playoffs on Sunday at 4:00 pm CST in Bismarck. The winner of that game will travel to Wahpeton on Wednesday to play #1 seed North Dakota State College of Science.
