DCC Men suffer their first loss of the season
Bucs lose 86-93 to Yellowstone Christian College
After starting the season 4-0, the DCC Men’s Basketball team finally came up on the short end of a game. It didn’t look that way early on as the Bucs took charge of the game in the first half on the road at Yellowstone Christian College and opened up a 5 point advantage 47-42 at the intermission. They were called for 16 fouls in the opening half and YCC shot 23 free throws, but managed to build their lead by shooting 38% from three-point range and 71% from the free throw line. Ryan Strong led the way with 11 points on three 3-pointers and a couple of technical free throws.
In the second half, the Bucs built on their lead in the opening 5 minutes to go up 59-50. Over the next 8 minutes the Bucs struggled with their shooting at the same time that YCC got hot from the outside. It quickly went from a 9 point advantage to a 9 point deficit before the Bucs could find their stroke again. Their comeback rally fell short and the final score was 93-86.
Daniel Shedden had a huge 2nd half with 21 points. He finished the game with 29 points, 11 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 blocks and 3 steals. Stefan Stubbs also had a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds before fouling out. Bret Vester also had a solid game with 12 points and 7 rebounds.
The Centurions of YCC were led by Abraham Nyok’s 23 points and 12 rebounds. There were 58 fouls called in the game and 73 free throws taken.
DCC’s next games will be Friday and Saturday in the Gillette tournament in Wyoming against the 3rd best team in the country last year, Gillette College, and on Saturday against Little Big Horn College.
