Finn Makes Clutch Free-throws with 4 Seconds Left to Beat United Tribes
Bucs Win 79-77
Big Timber native, Brent Finn, made a key offensive play for the 2nd straight game to clinch another victory for the Dawson Community College Buccaneers. On Wednesday, Finn scored a three point play with a minute left and the game tied to put DCC in the lead over Lake Region. This time around it was tied again with United Tribes Technical College and with 4 seconds left Finn drove the lane and drew a foul. He calmly knocked down both free-throws and a last second desperation heave fell short to give Dawson a 79-77 home win.
Amaury Matthews kept the visitors in the game all night long, finishing with 38 points, 10 rebounds, 4 steals and 3 assists. Leading scorer Xavier Norris never got it going though, finishing 3 for 13 from the field. The first half was a back and forth affair until United Tribes pushed ahead by 11 points with a few minutes remaining. The Bucs battled back into the game and Daniel Shedden’s three-pointer banked in at the final buzzer of the opening half to bring the home team within 2 at 42-40. Shedden hadn’t played in the past couple of games because of an injury, but came up big in his return tonight. He finished the night with 27 points by shooting 11-16 from the field. Kolton Wall also had an outstanding game with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Both Shedden and Wall came off the bench which helped DCC’s bench outscore the Tribes 52-5.
The game had 6 ties and 13 lead changes, with the final one coming in the last 20 seconds. Dawson outrebounded the Tribes 48-41, but turned it over 19 times. The Bucs shot well from the field at 46%, but again struggled from the 3-point line, converting only 5 of 19.
It was the 2nd straight win for DCC. They will hit the road to play at Dakota College Bottineau on Wednesday night before returning home for the Battle of the Badlands Contest with Miles Community College on Monday, February 20th.
