Williston Easily Handles Dawson 89-58
The Williston State Tetons came out of the gate draining 3-pointers and jumped out to a double digit lead in the first 5 minutes. They never looked back from there, building a 25 point lead in the first half. Jamil Jackson was a perfect 4 for 4 in the first half. Michael Vandall and Hayden Sadowsky also hit two apiece from long range in the first half. The home team played well offensively hitting 49% of their shots and only turning it over three times. On the other hand, the Bucs were incredibly inefficient, only hitting 21% of their shots and turning it over 8 times. The Tetons went into the half with a 49-26 advantage. Jackson had 19 points and only missed one shot from the field out of eight attempts.
Williston came out in the 2nd half and increased their lead in the first few minutes, but after that the second half was a little more balanced. Williston finished the game shooting 40% from long range and 90% from the free-throw line. Jackson finished with 23 points. Sadowsky had 17 and Darius Webster had 16. Three Bucs finished in double figures with Gavin McPherson leading them with 17 points on 6 of 8 shooting from the field. He was the lone bright spot for the visitors. Five of their players didn’t make a shot from the field and three others finished way below 50% from the field. Only McPherson and Tyrick Thompson shot 50% or better.
DCC Coach Joe Peterson shared his frustrations, “We tried some different things tonight going back to our platoon system and trying to play some zone, but it obviously didn’t work. We were flat from the first minute until the last. As a leader, sometimes when things aren’t going well, you take some risks and try to shake it up, but sometimes those risks end up blowing up in your face. We have to put this one behind us and get ready for Monday night. A win against NDSCS could help jumpstart our season.”
Things don’t get any easier for the Bucs. On Monday night at home they will face league leaders, North Dakota State College of Science. Since losing to DCC last January 7th, the Wildcats have only lost two games in the past 13 months. One of those losses was at the National Tournament last year. The other was earlier this season. They are undefeated in conference and 23-1 overall this year and nationally ranked at #12. They defeated the Bucs by 18 last month in Wahpeton.
