DCC Loses Close One to Northwest College 70-67
In their first game back after the holiday break, the Dawson Community College Buccaneers lost another close one to the Northwest College Trappers. In December, they lost by 5 at home and this time they lost by 3. Stefan Stubbs helped the Bucs get off to a quick start with 3 early field goals inside, but the Trappers answered with a couple of outside shots. It was a pretty even first half until the final few minutes when the home team built an 8 point lead 34-26. The difference came from the 3 point line where Northwest was 5-13 and the Bucs only hit 2 out of 11. Stubbs finished the first half with 10 points and 6 rebounds.
In the 2nd half, DCC came roaring back to tie it up with 8 minutes to play, but then Northwest hit three-pointers on 3 consecutive possessions to take a 9 point lead. They kept that advantage until the final few minutes when the Bucs made another run with a couple of driving lay-ups by Brendon Chevannes and three-pointers by Brent Finn, Kolton Wall and two by Ryan Strong. The last three by Strong brought the Bucs within three points. The comeback bid fell short as the clock expired. Northwest finished the game with ten 3’s (42%) and outrebounded DCC 43-34 (15-6 on the offensive end). Sukhjot Bains led the way with 17 points and 7 rebounds and Levi Londale posted a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
DCC improved their 3 point accuracy in the 2nd half making 7 out of 12 (58%), but hurt themselves on the board and with committing 19 turnovers. Brent Finn led the Bucs in scoring with 18 points, 4 rebounds and 3 steals. Stefan Stubbs didn’t score in the 2nd half but finished with a double-double, 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Dawson will open up conference play at home on Monday night against Williston State College at 7:30 pm.
