DCC Survives a Scare from Nueta Hidatsa Sahnish College
Bucs win 90-84
Less than two weeks ago the DCC Buccaneers beat Nueta 98-51 on the road in a lop-sided game. It was a different story tonight at the Toepke Center where the visiting Storm hung around until the very end. The first half was a back and forth affair with 6 ties and 6 lead changes. The Bucs were led by Brent Finn’s 14 points. Daniel Shedden also had a few strong drives to score 11 while Gavin McPherson contributed 9 in the opening half. Both teams struggled handling the ball and had double digit turnovers. The Bucs edged ahead by 4 points at the half, 49-45.
In the opening minutes of the 2nd half, the Bucs increased their lead and looked like they were going to pull away when they outscored the Storm 15-4 early on. Their biggest lead was at 64-49, but the Storm didn’t give up and fought back into it on the backs of their two best players, Jacob Knife and Jordan Manning. Nueta shot 50% from the field for the game and outrebounded the home team 40-37, but it still wasn’t enough. The Buccaneers shot a season best 80% from the Free Throw line (24-30) and forced Nueta into as close to 30 turnovers. In the end DCC prevailed 90-84. It was the 6th win in 8 games for the Bucs. Brent Finn finished the night with a career high of 22 points on 8 of 14 shooting, including 4 from beyond the arc. Shedden had 19, also on 8 of 14 shooting. He also pulled down 7 rebounds, 3 assists and an astounding 8 steals. McPherson finished with 16 points and iced the game down the stretch with some free throws.
The Buccaneers have a tough stretch coming up. They will be travelling later this week to Casper, Wyoming to participate in a tournament. They play Casper College on Thanksgiving Night at 7:00 pm. Casper is ranked #22 in the nation for NJCAA Division I schools. On Friday, they will take on Central Wyoming College and then Lamar Community College on Saturday. Their next home game won’t be until December 6th.
