DCC Men defeat Central Wyoming College
Bucs win 83-78
In the Foss Motors Classic in Casper, Wyoming, Dawson Community College bounced back from a tough defeat on Thanksgiving Day to beat Central Wyoming College 83-78. It was an even match-up which included 12 ties and 12 lead changes. It was a defensive battle in the first half with both teams starting slowly. The Rustlers of Central Wyoming converted 10 points in transition in the opening half. Nick Brannon led the way with 11 points on perfect 5-5 shooting. The Buccaneers were pretty balance with Kolton Wall scoring 12, Brendon Chevannes 9, Daniel Shedden with 8 and Gavin McPherson with 6 points on two shots from long range. The Bucs forced 11 turnovers with the most important one being as the clock wound down and the Rustlers were holding for the last shot. Chevannes picked the pocket of the Rustlers point guard and took it down for a layup as time expired to give the Bucs a two point lead 39-37.
DCC carried that momentum into the 2nd half with Shedden and Wall leading the way. Brent Finn hit a big three with 5 minutes to go to help the Bucs regain the lead. McPherson also hit two more big three’s in the 2nd half. But the games wasn’t decided until Chevannes picked up another steal with 35 seconds left. The Bucs iced it with free-throws by Shedden, Finn and Wall. The final score was 83-78. The win was DCC’s 7th of the year.
Wall finished with 23 points and 7 rebounds including 4 of 5 shooting from long range. Shedden had 21 points with 3 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals. Chevannes finished with 13 points, 4 assists, 3 rebounds and 3 key steals. McPherson had 12 points on 4 of 6 shooting from the 3-point line. For the game, DCC forced 23 turnovers and scored 25 points off those turnovers. Their bench came up big again, outscoring the Rustlers 42-22 with all 11 players who suited up playing at least 8 minutes.
The Bucs will close out the Foss Motors Classic with a game on Saturday afternoon at 3:00 pm against the 9-1 Lamar Community College Lopes who are coming off an upset of 21st ranked Casper College on Friday night.
