Men's Basketball wins second game
Bucs defeat Nueta Hidatsa Sahnish College 98-51
The DCC Men’s Basketball team once again went on the road and picked up its 2nd win in as many games, defeating Nueta Hidatsa Sahnish Storm 98-51. Similar to their first game, they started off a little slow, but once they got going, they were hard to stop. Gavin McPherson picked up the offense in the first half by scoring 14 points on 4 of 5 shooting from beyond the arc. Despite his shooting, the Bucs still found themselves down 26-21 with 5 minutes remaining in the opening half. From there on out, they locked down defensively not allowing the home team to score in the final 5 minutes. The Bucs went from being down 5 to leading by 13 points, closing the half on a 18-0 run. They led 39-26 at the half.
The continued the tight defense and picked up on their rebounding to start the second half. The Bucs shot 66% in the 2nd half and limited Nueta to 32% shooting. All 13 players saw action and 10 were in the scoring column, led by McPherson’s 19 points. Four others scored in double figures including Kolton Wall with 15, Daniel Shedden with 14, Ryan Strong with 13 and Brent Finn with 12 points. The two point guards, Ryan Strong and Brent Finn, combined to tally 14 assists and 8 steals, only turning it over 3 times. Kolton Wall led the Bucs with 7 rebounds and Stefan Stubbs had 6. DCC’s bench outscored Nueta 59-2 on the day. The Bucs shot 56% from the field, 39% from the 3 point line, but only 46% from the free throw line (11-24). Nueta shot 32% from the field and 21% from the 3 point line. The Bucs forced Nueta into 25 turnovers.
DCC opens up their home schedule later this week with a game on Thursday against the Eastern Montana All-Stars and Saturday against the Rocky Mountain College JV’s.
