DCC loses 2nd Conference Game
Bucs lose to NDSCS 63-80
The defending Region XII and Mon-Dak Conference Champions, North Dakota State College of Science continued their winning ways by defeating Dawson Community College 80-63 on Thursday night. Last season DCC beat them in the conference opener. After that game, NDSCS went on a 15 game winning streak before losing in the 2nd round at the National Tournament. This year they brought in a 16-1 record and a top 20 ranking into the match-up. Early on it looked like the visiting Bucs were up to the challenge with a few early scores from Brendon Chevannes and Daniel Shedden. The Wildcats countered with several from long range and then a few driving lay-ups by James Bateman who finished the half with 15 points. Elliot Kane also contributed 13 points as NDSCS built a 14 point lead at 48-34. DCC hit the final two buckets of the 1st half on a lay-up by Chevannes and then a tip in at the buzzer by Bret Vester. The half-time score was 48-38. Chevannes led the Bucs with 17 points, followed by Shedden’s 9 and 8 from Stefan Stubbs. The Wildcats connected on 9 of 20 from long range in the opening half, outscoring the Bucs 27-6 from the 3 point line.
DCC never got closer than 10 points in the 2nd half as NDSCS went on to win 80-63. Bateman finished with 24 points, 15 rebounds and 6 assists. Gach Gach contributed 18 points. For the Bucs, Chevannes totaled a career high 23 points to go along with 6 rebounds and 3 steals. Stubbs had 13 points and 7 rebounds.
NDSCS is 2-0 in the conference while Dawson drops to 0-2. Their next game will be at home on Monday night against Lake Region State College who is 2-0 after defeating Bismarck State and Williston.
