6’7 Forward Fernando Lopez Signs with the DCC Men’s Basketball Team
Fernando Lopez is the latest addition to DCC Men’s Basketball Coach Joe Peterson’s recruiting class. Lopez graduated from Canterbury School in Fort Myers, Florida, but he originally hails from Miami. During his junior year, he was ranked as one of the top 50 players in the state of Florida. As a senior, the 6’7 200 lb forward averaged 17 points, 10 rebounds and 3 blocks per game. He was named 1st Team All-Tournament at the prestigious Jim Clark Holiday Classic and was selected to play in the Southwest Florida All-Star Game. He has the ability to shoot, drive, post up and rebound. He has good moves inside and can finish well. He led his team to a 21-5 record and a berth in the Regional Finals.
Lopez explained his decision, “I chose DCC because after talking to Coach Peterson I felt like this program and school would really be the best fit for me and help me further my basketball career. I am excited to join the team and grow not only as a player, but also as a person.”
Peterson was happy to get him, “Fernando had many schools at all different levels showing interest in him. I didn’t think we had much of a chance, but I stayed persistent and let him know how much we wanted him at Dawson and decided to make an offer. I think he is a skilled big man who can do a lot of different things. I really like the way our team is shaping up for next year.”
