The red and black was on the attack again. Just when Williston thought the game would be somewhat in their favor, the Lady Buccaneers came with their “fight fight fight” mentality. The Lady Bucs defeated Williston State College 61-56 on Friday night in Glendive.
Williston led at half-time 37-29. Dawson started off strong in the second half and ended up winning the final twenty minutes 32-19. There were 8 ties and 9 lead changes in the game. Both teams were similar with points scored in the paint, points off turnovers, and 2nd chance points.
“It was quite the game. I loved how we kept our composure. The game was totally lopsided with Williston shooting 32 shots from the foul line to our 8. That goes to show we will push through any obstacle in front of us. I was very proud of our bench to play the 2nd quarter effectively when our starters were out of the game. Our team energy was outstanding, and once again, the fight by each individual is helping us to put things together as a whole, and that spells trouble for our opponents. Win or lose, our mentality is to play 40 minutes strong!” commented DCC Coach Romeo Lagmay, Jr.
Despite two double-doubles from the Tetons (Keeley Tini 16 points, 15 rebounds and Sydney Labatte 19 points and 11 rebounds), Dawson had scoring power of their own with Hailee Brandon pouring in 18 points, along with 6 rebounds and 3 steals. Samantha Jenkins pumped in 14 points with 2 assists and 1 block. There were 9 Buccaneers who were able to score, while the team outrebounded Williston 41-38 and forced 28 turnovers.
Dawson is now 4-2 in conference and 6-2 overall. They host Bismarck State College in the Toepke Center at 2:00 pm on Saturday, November 20th.
