Dawson Community College Women’s Basketball returned a favor to Dakota College who beat them earlier in November in Bottineau, ND 65-67. The Lady Bucs left no room for doubt, defeating Dakota College 67-49 Thursday night in Glendive.
However, Lady Jack Maria Moore gave Dawson a run for their money as she lit up the Toepke Center, shooting 5-11 from beyond the arc, finishing the game with 23 points. She would be the only Lady Jack in double figures though. Dakota College had 25 turnovers and were outrebounded 37-30.
DCC Head Coach Romeo Lagmay, Jr. commented, “We made some good runs coming out in the first quarter and blasting them. Then #14 Maria Moore silenced us real quick with her sharpshooting skills from deep. In order to beat that kind of team with a sniper on the ledge, we have to play real sound, disciplined defense; and that is exactly what we did. I think we rattled them some with our full court pressure. Our players played tough! We were glad to see Sam show her range as well.”
Dawson had some deep shooting themselves with freshman Kiwi Samantha Jenkins shooting 4-10 and scoring a game high 25 points, along with 7 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals and 1 block. Former Tri-Cities High School standout Brianna Bergum added 14 points, 6 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal. Big Timber’s Hailee Brandon dished out a game high 5 assists, grabbed 6 rebounds, collected 1 steal and scored 9 points.
The Lady Bucs dominated points in the paint, outscoring Dakota College 30-10. They also had an 11-5 advantage on second chance points, and a scorching 27 points off turnovers, while Dakota only had 7.
Dawson will return to back to back home action next week starting with Lake Region State College on Wednesday, January 26 and Bismarck State College the next day. Both games will tip off at 5:30 pm.
