Bergum of Dawson Basketball Selected as NJCAA Top 40 All-Star
5’10 forward Brianna Bergum of Garniell, Montana has been selected to represent Dawson Community College as one of the Top 40 Student-Athletes to participate in the 14th Annual NJCAA Women’s Basketball Coaches Association All-Star Weekend. The All-Star Weekend will be held July 20-23 in Atlanta, Georgia.
The Weekend will have a mandatory meeting and orientation, practices and games along with some entertainment and a hall of fame banquet. The set dates also coincide with the July recruiting period for 4-year college coaches to attend and evaluate.
Top 40 participants were selected representing all three NJCAA Divisions. There are approximately 392 schools members in the NJCAA. Dawson competes at the Division 1 level.
Bergum accumulated many accolades throughout her career. This past season, she was awarded First Team All-Conference, two time Mon-Dak Conference Player of the Week, NJCAA All-Region 13, and Team’s MVP. Bergum led the Mon-Dak Conference in steals and offensive rebounding, was #2 in field goal percentage (52%), #9 in scoring, #8 in total rebounds, and collected 29 defensive charges in the season. She also is a two time Mon-Dak Conference Academic Team and NJCAA All-Academic Team.
Brianna expressed her feelings, “It was such an honor to have been nominated, but an even greater honor to have been selected. I have been blessed throughout my time here at Dawson to have a coach that has believed in me from the start. So, thank you Coach Romeo for helping me get to this honorary position.”
Head Coach Romeo Lagmay, Jr. stated, “Brianna is so well deserving of this honor. She is a true workhorse during games and practices. She carries that same energy and work ethic in her academic coursework. She is a fierce competitor and never backs down. Brianna accepts any challenge, and yet she is so humble. Dawson couldn’t be more proud of her well-rounded accomplishments.”
