Shooting Prowess Lifts Dawson to Victory
The Dawson Community College Lady Buccaneers have been shooting much better lately. On Sunday afternoon they shot 44% from the field, 36 % from 3-point range, and 80% from the foul line, leading Dawson to a blowout victory over Dakota College 75-56. Despite losing two quarters on the road, the Lady Buccaneers showed their scoring strength in the 2nd and 4th.
DCC Head Coach Romeo Lagmay, Jr. said, “When we play on both ends of the court in a dominant fashion, there’s really no stopping us. We started off a bit slow, but the team did an outstanding job adjusting and playing well together.”
Sabira Ahayeva showed why they missed their starting point guard in the first semester when she was injured. Sabira led the game with 22 points, while collecting 5 steals, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists. She also shot a perfect 8-8 from the foul line. Samantha Jenkins drained in 16 points, 3 assists and shot 50% from beyond the arc, going 4-8. Brianna Bergum scored 14 points, grabbed 5 rebounds, and also had 5 steals. Hailee Brandon had a team high 7 rebounds, along with 9 points and 4 assists. Olivia Williams had 7 rebounds as well, and added 6 points. Eva Kingston came off the bench to score 8 points and grab 4 rebounds.
Maria Moore led Dakota College with 12 points, while collecting 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals. Jaidyn Drummond came off the bench and recorded a double double of 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Dawson will return home on Thursday, February 10 at 5:30 pm for their last home game of the regular season. Williston State College will visit the Toepke Center as the Buccaneers host their 7th annual Play 4Kay Breast Cancer Awareness and Sophomore Night game.
