DCC Women Bounce Back with Win over Western Wyoming
Dawson Community College Women’s Basketball claim victory in their second game of the Gillette Borders War Tournament over Western Wyoming Community College 52-43.
Western Wyoming would start the game hot outscoring the Lady Buccaneers 9-1 in the first quarter, but red and black would eventually showcase their defense and quickly tie the score 9-9. Dawson led at the end of each quarter, but found themselves in a bind as they committed 23 turnovers. The Lady Mustangs would not be put away easy as they converted 17 points from Dawson’s turnovers. DCC however would outrebound Western Wyoming 52-43 creating more possessions. The Lady Bucs collected 12 steals and caused 25 turnovers as well converting 19 points from the Mustang’s mistakes.
“Western Wyoming definitely didn’t take us lightly. They came out to win and play hard. As close as a game as it was with Western directly on our tail, it was good to see our players keep their composure. We shot 79% from the foul line and that’s what kept us afloat. So glad to see that poise from our team,” commented Dawson Coach Romeo Lagmay, Jr.
The Lady Bucs were happy to see 21 points and 20 rebounds produced by the bench. Eva Kingston led the team with 13 points, along with 8 rebounds and 4 steals. Samantha Jenkins scored 12 points and 7 rebounds. Brianna Bergum led the team with 9 rebounds.
Dawson is now 9-4, and will play their final home game of the 2021 semester against Dickinson State University JV at 5:30pm at the Toepke Center.
