Dawson Women Defeat Miles on the Road
Dawson Community College Women’s Basketball beat Miles Community College in every quarter on Monday night in Miles City. What appeared to be a battle back and forth with 6 lead changes and 3 ties, the Lady Buccaneers held their composure and fought relentlessly, despite 24 turnovers, and defeated Miles 62-47.
Miles would lead as much as 7 points in the early part of the first quarter, but Dawson was still able to overcome their challenges. Both teams shot poorly from the field. Miles collected 16 steals, but Dawson had more possessions, outrebounding the Lady Pioneers 47-37. Frustration got the best of Miles’ head coach, and a technical was issued in the second quarter. The Lady Bucs would take the lead into halftime with a 35 to 31 score.
“It wasn’t pretty, but we will take it,” said Dawson Coach Romeo Lagmay, Jr. “Our early conference games count. So to keep us in the mix at the top of the standings is very critical in November. It’s different how it’s set up this season, but every game affects what happens later on in the spring semester. With two of our key players sitting out with injuries, I’m comfortable to see that our players fight off adversity well despite these challenges. It is actually good to see some of our players get experience in positions they never really played before.”
What went well for the red and black attack was the scoring. Samantha Jenkins was one rebound shy of a double double scoring 14 points and grabbing 9 rebounds. Brianna Bergum (Garniell, MT) also scored 14, along with 6 rebounds and 1 steal. Hailee Brandon (Big Timber, MT) pumped in 12 points, and was only 1 rebound shy of a double double with 9 rebounds. Adrianna Ambroziak chipped in with 8 points and 3 rebounds. Logan Stetzner (Anaconda, MT) had a well-rounded game off the bench with 6 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 blocks and 1 steal.
Dawson will host Northwest College of Powell, WY this Wednesday, November 17 at 5:30 pm in non-conference play at the Toepke Center.
