Three Lady Bucs Selected to All-Conference Teams
With the 3rd best overall record in the conference at 20-12 and a Region XIII tournament semifinal appearance, the Dawson Community College Women’s Basketball team was honored with three Lady Buccaneers being selected to Mon-Dak All-Conference teams.
Brianna Bergum was selected First Team All-Conference while Hailee Brandon and Eva Kingston were voted Second Team All-Conference.
5’10 sophomore captain Brianna Bergum of Garniell, MT (Tri-Cities High School) made her presence known statistically and was named Mon-Dak Conference Player of the Week twice during the season. Brianna completed the season averaging 12 points and 6 rebounds. She was ranked #1 in steals, #1 in offensive rebounds, #8 in points, #10 in overall rebounds and #13 in points per game. She also was #2 in field goal percentage, shooting an outstanding 52% from the field. Brianna collected 29 defensive charges on the season as well.
Dawson Head Coach Romeo Lagmay, Jr. praised Brianna, “Where some are show horses, Brianna is a total work horse. Not only was she filling out the stat sheet, she was doing damage in the intangibles like taking charges, diving on loose balls, saving balls from going out of bounds, and playing somewhat out of position in the post to fill a void. She definitely displayed her battle scars with black eyes, twisted ankles, bloodied mouths and bruised limbs, and this was not only in games. She played like that in practice!”
5’7 freshman guard Hailee Brandon of Big Timber, MT (Sweet Grass County High School) was selected to the 2nd Team All-Conference. Hailee averaged 13 points and 6 rebounds. At the conclusion of the regular conference season, Hailee’s was voted conference Player of the Week for the final week. She ranked #5 in steals and offensive rebounding, #6 in points, #7 in points per game and #8 in rebounds per game.
“Hailee not only is full of energy, but full of encouragement. There’s really not a negative bone in her body when supporting her teammates,” commented Lagmay. “Hailee is the type of player you want to play with because she will go to war with you regardless the situation. She’s a true competitor, and will not go down without a fight. She brings positive energy to the players and staff.”
5’9 freshman guard/forward Eva Kingston of Ely, NV (White Pine High School) was also voted 2nd Team All-Conference. Eva averaged 11 points and 6 rebounds. Eva ranked #5 in rebounds per game, #7 in both offensive and defensive rebounding, #9 in steals per game and #11 in points.
Coach Romeo shared his thoughts, “Eva was another player playing out of position. She accepted her role, and was productive in it. Her defense improved towards the end of the season, and she was hitting the right shots at the right time when it was time to put teams away. She’s a very strong guard, and when she’s put back into her natural position, she is going to give other teams fits.”
