Mia Jones of Layton Christian Academy in Layton, Utah, has officially signed her NJCAA Letter of Intent to become the 7th player committed to the DCC Lady Buccaneers for Fall 2022.
Mia had an illustrious high school career. This past season she recorded her 1,000th career point, becoming the second player in Layton Christian history to do that. Mia also collected a total of 912 career rebounds. She ranked #8 in the state among all classes in rebounds per game. As a 4-year varsity player, Mia has been part of her team’s four state tournament appearances. She has averaged a double double since her sophomore year with her senior year being the best at 15 points and 12 rebounds a game, along with shooting 89% from the free throw line. This past season, she helped contribute to the team’s 3-point shooting state record at 44%.
Dawson Head Coach Romeo Lagmay, Jr. on his recent signee, “Mia brings another serious weapon to the table in our recruiting class. Not only does she have a knack for rebounding, but she can legitimately shoot the lights out! If defenses gives her any space beyond the arc, she’s going to give them 3 points. I enjoy her lively conversations, her focus on academic studies and her commitment to want to be in the gym, aside from the classroom.”
In 2020-21, the 5’10 guard/forward was ranked #1 in the state of Utah in 3-point shooting at 48%. She was ranked #13 nationally that same season. She was also voted 2021 Standard Examiner Player of the Week. During her senior year she shot 42%. From sophomore year to senior year, Mia was voted All-Area, All-Region and All-State in Class 3A. Mia most recently participated in the 2022 3A-4A Senior All-Star game.
Academically, Mia currently carries a 3.8 gpa, and has been on the Principal’s Honor Roll and National Honor Society all four of her high school years. She also served as Student Government Vice President.
Her dad, Layton Christian Academy Coach Jeremy Jones, commented on his daughter’s commitment, “I’m excited to see Mia work hard and play at the next level and see her hard work pay off."
Mia on her signing, “Going to Dawson I know I will grow as a person and an athlete. Coach Romeo gave me the opportunity to further my journey in basketball."
