Dawson Edges Out Miles in Close Battle
With 8 ties and 8 lead changes, the ladies from Miles and Dawson battled to the end. It could have been anyone’s ball game, but only one can be victorious. The Dawson CC Lady Buccaneers prevailed with solid, smart defense in the final seconds, forcing the Lady Pioneers in to bad shooting. Dawson defeated Miles 78-76.
“It was a very crazy game. Both teams came to play. That’s purely a rivalry game where records don’t count. I respect the Miles program for not letting up and how they competed. They have a well-knowledgeable coach. Therefore no team can sleep on them,” commented Dawson Coach Romeo Lagmay, Jr. “We played with no sense of urgency, but when it came down to the nitty gritty, they stepped up. I’m proud our Lady Bucs played with composure.”
Dawson’s Eva Kingston led the game with 22 points. Hailee Brandon had a double double of 19 points and 10 rebounds. Sabira Ahayeva contributed 10 points with 2 clutch free throws in the last 20 seconds of the game to secure the lead. Brianna Bergum added 8 points and a game high 4 steals.
Kelbee Denham led Miles with 19 points. Ella Paleea-Cook had 14 points. Molly Cockburn pumped in 11, while Gabby Flute Player chipped in with 10.
Dawson concludes the regular season with a 4th place conference record of 12-9 and 18-12 overall. The Lady Bucs are scheduled for a non-conference game against the Montana All-Stars on Monday at 6:00 pm, and a first round post-season playoff game Wednesday in the Toepke Center at 6:00 pm against the same Miles Community College Lady Pioneers.
