Once again, Bismarck State College walks into the Toepke Center and steals a game from Dawson Community College, defeating the Lady Buccaneers 80-76 in overtime.
Dawson Head Coach Romeo Lagmay, Jr. expressed his frustration, “There’s no doubt our players work hard, but we have now lost 4 close games because of our poor free throw shooting. It’s unacceptable! I’ll be patient, but for how long when we are in the heart of our conference play? We played great defense and battled well on the boards, but not being able to put the ball in the basket uncontested for a large amount of attempts…It’s unacceptable! Hopefully they get in the gym and work on that, and find a different outcome in a possible close game again.”
There were 8 tied scores and 4 lead changes. Dawson shot 27% from the foul line, shooting 7-26. Bismarck shot 61%. The Lady Bucs did outrebound their opponent 48-36, but failed to convert on the free throw line. The Lady Mystics; however, were able to capitalize on Dawson’s 23 turnovers and score 26 points. Even though Dawson outscored Bismarck 18-9 in the paint, the Lady Mystics had 4 players in double figures.
Bismarck’s Sydney Gustavsson came off the bench to score a game high 19 points, along with 5 rebounds. Sam Oech piled up a double double with 18 points and 13 rebounds. Jaiden Baker scored 14 points and Ashton Kinnebrew added 12.
Lady Buc Olivia Williams led the team with a double double of 15 points and 13 rebounds. Brianna Bergum also collected a double double of 13 points and 12 rebounds. Logan Stetzner added 14 points and had 6 rebounds.
Dawson will host United Tribes Technical College on Sunday at 2:00 pm. Between Sunday’s doubleheader, the 3rd Hall of Fame class will be honored.
