Buccaneer Baseball hires Nate Glant to lead pitching staff
Baseball Adds Professional Experienced Coach
Coming off a 2016 Mon-Dak Conference Tournament Championship, 1st year head coach, Chris Lewis, has hired Fort Wayne, Indiana native, Nate Glant. “You win with pitching and it was very important to find the right guy to run our staff. After a national search, it didn’t take long for Coach Glant to separate himself from the rest of the applicants.”
As a prep, Glant played baseball and wrestled for Wayne High School in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He began his college baseball playing career at Muskegon Community College and in 2002 led the team in relief innings pitched. “The fact that he was successful as a bullpen guy, spoke volumes to me. First, that he accepted his role on that Muskegon pitching staff and he exceled in his role. That shows great maturity and a team first attitude.”
After Muskegon CC, Glant moved onto the 4 year level with Aurora University in Aurora, Illinois. AU went back to back NCAA DIII World Series appearances.” I loved the fact that Coach Glant played in a program as successful as Aurora, he knows what a program needs to do to be successful.”
Glant then went on to pitch one season with the Windy City Thunderbolts in Crestwood, Illinois, a member of the Frontier League. After one season, Glant joined the Milwaukee Brewers farm city, pitching for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (Low A) in Grand Chute, Wisconsin and the Brevard County Manatees (High A) in Viera, Florida for 3 seasons. “It is great to have a guy on staff that has played beyond college and knows what it takes to play at the next level. That experience will allow him to be a great resource for our players.”
After his playing career, Glant moved to southern California to study under Dr. Tom House with the National Pitching Association. Many consider Tom House “the father of modern pitching mechanics” and “the throwing doctor”. Glant became a certified NPA pitching coach in 2013 and currently owns his own baseball academy in Ardmore, Oklahoma.
“I couldn’t be happier with this addition to our coaching staff. He has great experience as a player, will be a great recruiter and getting someone who is a certified NPA guy is huge. Arm care has become such a hot topic in the recent past and it takes a load off my mind that we have someone in charge of arms who will be able to take care of the staff. He also brings different regional ties to our program which will only help in recruiting and moving our guys onto the next level.”
