Derek Hogate Commits to Buc Baseball
Derek Hogate – 1B/3B – Winston Churchill High School – Eugene, Oregon
Derek Hogate, a 2016 graduate of Winston Churchill High School in Eugene, Oregon, has committed to DCC Baseball. Hogate was awarded 1st Team All-League his senior year and was also selected as an All-State infielder. The success in his senior season earned him a nomination to the 5A-6A All State All Star Series in which he was named Series MVP. In the summers he played for the storied Eugene Bi-Mart Challengers.
DCC baseball coach Chris Lewis said, “We are really happy that we were able to get Derek. He is a great young man who will bring some maturity and life experience with him. When we met in Eugene, it didn’t take long to figure out that he is the type of person we want in this program, it is just a bonus that he happens to be a pretty darn good baseball player. He is a big, strong, physical player who will definitely be expected to be a productive part of the offense. He has the ability to play both corners in the infield, he has tremendous bat speed and he comes from a baseball area. His summer team, The Eugene Challengers is probably the most recognized team in Oregon high school baseball and is a program that comes with high expectations of their players both on and off the field. He will be a great fit and we are really looking forward to helping him move on to the next level.”
Hogate added, “I chose to commit to DCC because I felt it best suited me. The direction in which the program is going is something I want to be a part of. The coaching staff reached out to me and even stopped in Eugene to meet with me, which I was very grateful for, and helped me solidify my decision.”
