Baseball adds two way player from New Mexico
Anthony Montoya Signs with Dawson
Anthony Montoya – RHP/3B – Miyamura High School – Gallup, New Mexico
DCC Coach Chris Lewis announced another signing, “Anthony was one of the first kids we recruited when we got the job last year, but as happens so often, life got in the way and he wasn’t able to join us last fall, so we just said we would touch base next year. We did just that and this time it looks like things are going to work out and we are really happy to have him. He is a good player who is going to help us as a hitter and a pitcher. Timing is a big part of life and last year the timing wasn’t great but this year it’s a whole lot better. Again, I would like to thank Mike McGaha and Brian Silva for their help. Anthony knows how to compete on the mound and can swing it very well at the plate.”
Montoya was a 4 year letter winner at Miyamura and the Patriots made the state tournament 3 out of his 4 years. In his senior year, he hit over .420 with 37 RBI and a .586 on base percentage, earning him a spot on the All-District Team as a RHP and as a 3B.
Montoya said, “Coming out of Gallup, I chose to go to Dawson because of the great environment and what the baseball program is trying to build there.”
