Women’s Basketball Nationally Ranked Academically 3rd Year in a Row
Dawson Community College Women’s Basketball has once again been selected as one of the top teams in the nation in regards to team grade point average by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association. The WBCA nationally ranks schools from all divisions, “The WBCA recognizes outstanding academic performance of college women's basketball teams through its Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll. The top teams in each of the five collegiate divisions – NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, NAIA and Two-year colleges – are recognized through this program,” WBCA.
Already this past school year, the Dawson Lady Buccaneers were selected as NJCAA Academic Honorable Mention. In the WBCA, the Lady Bucs were ranked #16 nationally with a team cumulative GPA of 3.098. This will be DCC’s 3rd year in a row with national honors. In 2016, DCC was ranked #3 and in 2017 they were #4. Head Coach Romeo Lagmay, Jr. was once again ecstatic about the team’s academic accomplishment, “It’s really rewarding to witness the reaping benefits of what truly embodies a student-athlete. Our institution is thankful to have such outstanding young ladies representing our campus, having winning seasons on the basketball court and being successful in their academic studies. We absolutely challenge our players to embrace the grind of being a student-athlete, and so far they’ve accepted it by being honored with such distinction.”
