Another Win on the Road for Women’s Basketball
Lady Buccaneers win 83-58
With their 3rd straight win on the road, the Dawson Community College women’s basketball team are now 4-1 in conference play holding a second place standing in the Mon-Dak. Holding nothing back, the Lady Buccaneers started the game full throttle as they were able to capitalize on many 1st half steals, not allowing the Lady Jacks of Dakota College at Bottineau to feel comfortable on their home court. DCC was able to play their entire squad winning the ball game 83-58.
Dawson led by as many as 34 points, but Head Coach Romeo Lagmay, Jr. substituted his entire squad allowing every Lady Buccaneer to share a part of the action. “I believe our victories are team victories. Not one player will not go unnoticed. It has always been about what we all do as a program to win ball games. Whether players are working hard in practice, and seeing limited action on the court, or one of our players is a leading scorer in a game, our victories and losses are what makes us one. Our locker room carries a humbled, yet attack-hard approach. Tonight, I was glad to see all of our ladies play together as a team again,” said Coach Lagmay.
The Lady Buccaneers outrebounded the Lady Lumberjacks 50-35, and were able to cause 20 turnovers with 13 steals. There were 27 points off turnovers for Bucs. DCC also had 17 second chance points while Dakota had 4, and DCC got 16 bench points to Dakota’s 8. Though Dakota shot an impressive 43% from the 3-point line, Dawson just had too much firepower. There were 9 Lady Bucs in double point figures. Alexius Foster led the game with 19 points along with 2 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 steals. Lexia Bell-White had 16 points, 7 rebounds and 2 steals. MacKinzie Verke scored 14 points with 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals. Emily Harwood was one shy a double double scoring 12 points and grabbing 9 rebounds. Harwood also had 3 assists and 2 steals. Ejanae Coopwood led both teams in rebounding with 10, but also had 3 assists and 3 steals.
DCC returns to home court action when they face Stone Child College in a non-conference matchup this Thursday, January 25th at 5:30 pm in the Toepke Center.
