Women’s Basketball pounces Little Big Horn
The women’s basketball team of Dawson Community College came out in dominating fashion, defeating the Lady Rams of Little Big Horn College 101-61. After losing big to Miles CC last week, the Lady Bucs came out strong, finishing the first quarter leading 29-6 and sending a message quickly resuming their winning ways. However, the Lady Rams didn’t play without fighting spurts throughout the game. Little Big Horn managed to tie the second quarter 22-22, going into the half with some momentum.
DCC went into the second half not allowing Little Big Horn to come within scoring reach, and was able to outrebound them 64-36, which made for more Lady Buc possessions. Those extra possessions helped DCC’s bench to score 42 points to Little Big Horn’s 4. The Lady Bucs were also able to score 32 second chance points, where the Lady Rams only had 4. In the meantime, DCC continued to have a haunting 23 team turnovers that carried over from last week’s game vs. MCC. “We were pleased the way our team came out and redeemed themselves in a dominating approach, but we still have to improve on not turning the ball over. Though it’s a new group of players this year, and mostly freshmen, we cannot use that as an excuse if we want to win the big games in conference play. Hopefully we grow and learn quickly,” said Head Coach Romeo Lagmay, Jr.
All eleven players were able to get in the scoring column. Alexius Foster led the team with 22 points along with 6 rebounds, 4 steals and 3 assists. Lexia Bell-White had a double double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Ejanae Coopwood had 14 points and 7 rebounds. MacKinzie Verke added 11 points, 6 rebounds and a game high 5 assists. Chasity Pope chipped in with 10 points and 4 rebounds.
The Lady Buccaneers will play on the road for the next 5 games. They begin in Billings, MT this Sunday, on November 26 versus Rocky Mountain JV at 4:00pm, and Monday, November 27 against Little Big Horn College at 5:30pm.
