Dawson Women’s Hoops Sign Guard from Las Vegas
Head Coach Romeo Lagmay, Jr. has signed Maiah Yearwood of Legacy High School in Las Vegas, Nevada to his 2018-2019 recruiting class at Dawson Community College.
Yearwood is a 5’8 guard/forward who played basketball for Coach Tiffany Richardson. Richardson commented on the signing, “Maiah always works hard. She will be the hardest worker you have on the court. She is the teammate who loves her team, and makes their job easier.” Legacy plays in the Sunset 4A Division. “Our division is by far the most competitive. The state champion came from our division, and Maiah held her own,” said Coach Richardson. Legacy made the playoffs and were the #3 seed, but lost in the first round finishing the season with a 13-15 record.
Yearwood (pictured right with Head Coach Tiffany Richardson and Assistant Coach Robert Beskow) was voted Team Defensive Player of the Year two years in a row, averaging 12 points, 9 rebounds and 3 steals per game. She was also named Honorable Mention All-Conference in the Sunset Division. Yearwood had this to say about her commitment to Dawson, “It is an honor to sign with Dawson CC. I feel as if this program would be a great opportunity for me and a fresh start. I see that Dawson has been successful for the past two seasons, and I believe I can add to that. I chose Dawson because the atmosphere feels right, and my coaches whom I trust believe it’s a good fit as well.”
Coach Lagmay was pleased with his recent signee, “With the aggressive style of play our Lady Bucs basketball system operates on, Maiah is going to fit in perfectly. What I like about her is she’s not afraid to battle. Even though she’s a guard, she is not afraid to put in some work in the paint and mix it up in post play. Maiah can dribble, shoot outside and finish strong penetrating to the basket. Her defense is strong and committed, and will give her opponents fits. After visiting with her on a recruiting trip, she has led me to believe that she is ready to own the court.”
