Miles City Wins Big against Lady Bucs
In the first Battle of the Badlands series between Dawson Community College and Miles Community College, the Lady Pioneers dominated the Lady Buccaneers with a score of 93-63.
The first quarter went in favor of DCC 21-18, but that would be the only light the Lady Bucs would see all night. MCC handled the Lady Bucs with stifling full court pressure and caused DCC to have a game high 38 turnovers. Total darkness loomed DCC as their opponent converted 33 points off turnovers and their bench had 47 points, and DCC had 0.
A frustrated Coach Romeo Lagmay, Jr. commented, “It wasn’t really about getting beat by 30 points. It was the fact that we had so many turnovers and a tremendous amount of bad passes, and I expected my sophomores to handle it better than their freshmen. Don’t get me wrong, our players are committed to winning, but to be in the games with an expectation of victory, turnovers cannot exceed 15 at maximum. And we were far from that tonight. Getting absolutely no points from the bench is disgraceful as well. Hopefully this will be the eye-opening game that will have all 12 of our players, with 10 of them being new to the program, on board to being committed in every facet of the game. I tip my hat off to new MCC head coach Nate Vogel for getting his late recruit players to play their tails off on defense.”
DCC was not able to totally capitalize on the 26 team fouls MCC committed, only shooting 61% from the free throw line. Even with 12 steals, the Lady Bucs couldn’t match the 25 steals the Lady Pioneers had. Alexius Foster and Julia Robarge scored 17 points apiece. Lexia Bell-White added 15.
DCC will play at home again on Monday, November 20 at 5:30 pm against Little Big Horn College.
