Lady Bucs Late Rally Not Enough to Beat Miles
Miles Community College Women’s Basketball defeated the Lady Buccaneers of Dawson Community College for the second time in a row. What appeared to be a close game in the first quarter, with Miles up 19-15, the Lady Pioneers would use their relentless full court defensive pressure and outscore the Lady Bucs in the second and third quarters. DCC would make a huge rally to cut a 20 point deficit in the fourth quarter outscoring MCC 24-14 with a defensive pressure of their own. But it was a bit too late as Miles won the game 71-61.
Pleased with his team’s effort Head Coach Romeo Lagmay, Jr. said, “I was really excited to see our girls go hard to the end. If we can play defense like that for 40 full minutes, we can beat a lot of teams in the rest of the season. A few weeks ago Miles hammered us, but we came to compete tonight and sure enough we did. We continue to have a winning record, and I’m ready to go to war with our Lady Bucs as they are finding ways to grind it out to the end.”
DCC shot a poor 17% from 3 point range while MCC shot 30%. Both teams converted 32 points off turnovers, but Miles had 23 points off the fastbreak and Dawson 12.
Lexia Bell-White led the game with 19 points along with 7 rebounds. Alexius Foster had 12 points and Ejanae Coopwood added 10 points with 6 rebounds.
