Dawson Welcomes Sidney Fairbanks as Head Softball Coach
Dawson Community College has hired Sidney Fairbanks to lead their women's softball program. Fairbanks comes to Glendive from Crete, Nebraska where she has been coaching at Doane University for the past three years. She was an assistant coach and the JV head coach. Doane has won 20 games in each of the past two seasons.
"Coach Fairbanks will bring good energy and give everything she has to this softball program," shared Dawson Athletic Director Joe Peterson. "I think she will be a strong recruiter, while focusing on the development and growth of her players, and she has good connections with four-year coaches throughout the country to help our players move on. She will bring a fun approach to the program. She is passionate about softball and about helping young women grow to their full potential."
Originally from Evergreen, Colorado, Fairbanks played collegiately at Mayville State University in North Dakota which gives her familiarity with the region. She had teammates that came from Dawson and has coached girls from Dawson so she is no stranger to the rich history of Dawson Softball.
The program has had a winning percentage in conference of .750 or greater for 14 seasons in a row under the leadership of Casey May Huff, Tami Lagmay and Jim LeProwse. The program has won the last four region championships.
Coach Fairbanks shared, "I am incredibly excited and honored to join the Dawson community as the new Head Softball Coach. From the very beginning, I have been impressed by Dawson's commitment to academic excellence and the genuine support for its athletic programs. It is clear that this is a community that values the growth and success of its student-athletes both in the classroom and on the field. I look forward to getting to know our student-athletes, families, faculty, alumni, and supporters as we work together to build a positive, competitive, and hardworking softball program. My goal is to create an environment where our players are challenged to reach their full potential, develop strong character, and compete with pride while representing Dawson with excellence. I am grateful for this opportunity and can't wait to get started. Go Buccaneers!"
