Dawson Bucs Sign 6’11 Center from Serbia
Bucs Coach Joe Peterson announced the signing of Marko Varda, "We are excited about Marko! He fits exactly what we were looking for. We needed a legit big who can impact the game on both ends of the floor. Marko has great size, but also has the skill and IQ of a guard. After watching his film, we knew we really wanted him, but then as we got to know his personality and character we realized that he was the perfect fit."
Varda is a 6'11 center from Serbia. He graduated from high school last month. He plays for Club KK Beovuk in Belgrade, Serbia and this past season averaged 15 points, 8 rebounds and 2 assists per game while shooting 63% from the field. He also represented his country in 2023-2024 playing for the U17 Serbian National Team.
According to Varda, "I'm so excited to come to Dawson because of both basketball and academic reasons. I can't express how happy I am that my next chapter in life will be with Dawson."
Varda's dad, Ratko Varda, played briefly in the NBA and then had a long career in Europe, winning the 2007 EuroCup with Real Madrid. He also won back-to-back Polish League championships in 2010 and 2011 with Asseco Prokom and an Adriatic League title with Partizan in 2007.
