Dawson Signs 6’6 Utah Guard
Logan High School's Jordan Child signed to play college basketball for the Dawson Community College Buccaneers.
"I chose Dawson for the family feel that the team and community has and the great coaching staff that has built a winning program at Dawson," explained Child. "I know Dawson is the place I will be able to succeed as a player and as a person and I'm excited to get to Glendive to get to work!"
Child is a 6'6 180 lb guard. He has spent the last two years in Argentina on a church mission. In his senior year at Logan he averaged 20.9 points, 7.8 rebounds and 3.8 assists, 2.4 steals and 1.7 blocks per game while shooting 63.5% from the field and 74% from the free throw line.
"Jordan will be a high impact guy from Day 1," shared Dawson Coach Joe Peterson. "He can score at all three levels and is elite at finishing at the rim through contact. Defensively he will fit in great with our pressure defense because of his ability to make reads and get in the passing lanes to get deflections and steals. He is a hard-working guy who has the character and maturity to succeed. I also love his versatility at being able to play almost any position. He is a really good basketball player that just wants to make the right plays to help his team win."
Child led his Logan team to a 19-6 record before losing in the quarterfinals of the Utah Class 4A State Tournament his senior year. He was a first team all-state selection and was named the Region 11 Player of the Year by the Cache Valley Media Group as well as the region coaches.
Child played for Coach Jeff Brimhall in the the Cache Valley Elite AAU team. Brimhall had this to say, "Jordan Child is a quiet assassin who can score 30 or 5 and still be happy his team won. He leads with relentless effort and mental focus. He is loved by his teammates because of the way he creates an atmosphere of unity and respect."
He also was a 4.0 student and a member of the National Honor Society while in high school.
