Dawson Buccaneers Capture Share of Mon-Dak Title and are Preparing for Region Tournament
The Dawson Buccaneers basketball team earned a share of the Mon-Dak Conference Championship, along with the North Dakota State College of Science Wildcats. Both teams finished with a 10-2 conference record. Based on tiebreakers, NDSCS will be the #1 seed and have home court advantage throughout the Region XIII Tournament. Dawson will be the #2 seed and will host Williston State College in a semifinal matchup next Wednesday at 6:00 pm. The championship game is scheduled for Sunday, March 8th at the highest remaining seed. The Region XIII winner will travel to Iowa to face the Region XI champion.
Dawson lost to Williston 86-68 on the road January 22nd and beat them at home 92-89 on February 16th. Williston's Jojo McDonald had a monster night with 43 points, 12 rebounds and 10 steals. McDonald is the 2nd leading scorer in the country, averaging 26.5 points per game.
Against NDSCS, the Buccaneers lost at their place 89-85 on February 8th. In their first matchup Dawson won 110-89 on January 18th.
The Buccaneers finished the regular season with a 22-8 record. They led the conference in points per game (96.7), field goal percentage (50.1%), three-point field goal percentage (39.1%), free throws made (208) and free throws attempted (295). On the defensive end they led the conference in field goal percentage defense (44.1%), turnover forced (15.8), steals (10.4) and blocks (3.5).
