Dawson Falls to Central Arizona
After a big win on Monday night, the Dawson Buccaneers couldn't maintain their momentum, falling to the Central Arizona Vaqueros 98-84 on Tuesday afternoon in the Arizona Western Winter Fest tournament in Arizona.
"We didn't play as hard as we needed to today and didn't play together as well as we needed to," explained Dawson Coach Joe Peterson. "We did at times, but not consistently throughout the entire forty minutes. When we don't live out our core values as a team, then that has to fall on me as the coach. It's my job to make sure that is happening."
The teams exchanged the lead many times in the opening half. Dawson's biggest lead was 35-30 with a little over three minutes remaining. Central Arizona closed out the half on an 11-2 run to go into the break leading 41-37.
CAZ came out of halftime and took control of the game, eventually building a double digit advantage. Dawson narrowed the gap to seven points with around five minutes remaining, but that was as close as they could get.
Dawson fell to 9-6 on the season. They will play one more game on Wednesday against Cochise College before they take an extended break for Christmas.
