Buccaneer Basketball Returns to Action
After a break for Christmas and New Years, the Buccaneer basketball team is returning to action this week. Dawson is 10-6 so far this season, playing all NJCAA Division I games.
They will be opening up Mon-Dak Conference play with a women's and men's doubleheader at Miles Community College in Miles City on Thursday night at 5:30 and 7:30 pm.
Their first home game since November will be on Saturday afternoon at 4:00 pm vs. Northwest College. The Trappers are 11-6 on the year, but have lost twice to the Buccaneers. Dawson came from behind to win 82-75 in Glendive in November and came from behind again to win on a buzzer beater, 86-83, in Powell in December.
Dawson will then travel to Scottsbluff, Nebraska to play Western Nebraska Community College on January 12th before returning home for more conference play January 18 and 19.
Some of the conference teams have put up some stellar records in non-league play. The North Dakota State College of Science men are 12-2 on the season. Dakota College Bottineau is 12-5 so far. Williston State (10-7) and United Tribes (9-7) also have winning records. Lake Region has won 8 games and Miles has won 7 games.
"It should be a very competitive league this year," shared Dawson Coach Joe Peterson. "All of the teams have had some impressive non-conference wins and have shown glimpses of being good. We will have to compete hard every night and take care of the little things if we want to be successful.
