    Dawson Softball Go 3-1 in Dome Play

    Late Score Costs Dawson Community College Softball Against University of Jamestown

    Lost 9-13

    Sunday's game against University of Jamestown JV was a heartbreaker for Dawson Community College Softball, as they lost the lead late in a 13-9 defeat. The game was tied at nine with University of Jamestown batting in the top of the seventh when Becca Thompson homered on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring four runs. Dawson lost despite out-hitting Jamestown ten to nine.

    In the first inning, Lady Buccaneers got their offense started. Shelby Martin doubled on a 0-1 count, scoring two runs. Dawson notched three runs in the sixth inning. The offensive onslaught by the Lady Bucs was led by Riley Arnold and Martin, all sending runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning. Dawson hit one home run on the day. Raquel McAuliffe went yard in the fifth inning. The Lady Buccaneers saw the ball well today, racking up ten hits in the game. O'Neal, Arnold, and McAuliffe each racked up multiple hits for Dawson. McAuliffe, Arnold, and O'Neal all had two hits to lead Dawson.

    The Jamestown JV tallied nine hits. Thompson and Lauren Diemert all managed multiple hits for the Lady Jimmies. Thompson went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Jamestown in hits.

    “We really let this one get away from us late. We had a three run lead going into the seventh inning and we recorded two quick outs. We got the next batter to hit a soft ground ball to the infield and we committed a throwing error. Jamestown then went on to score seven unearned runs with two outs.” Coach Jim LeProwse said.  He continued to comment, “This one was really frustrating. We hit well enough and scored enough runs to win, but our defense let us down.”

     

    Dawson Takes Victory Over Minnesota-Morris, 8-5

    Dawson Community College Softball wins contest against Minnesota-Morris, 8-5. In the first inning, Dawson got their offense started. Riley Arnold hit into a fielder's choice, scoring one run. Deven Creech was on the rubber for Dawson. The righthander allowed ten hits and five runs over seven innings, striking out nine and walking zero.

    Abby Wothe led things off in the circle for Minnesota-Morris. The Lady Bulldog lasted two innings, allowing one hit and four runs while striking out two. Grace Penke and Adrianna Johnson entered the game from the bullpen, throwing three and two-thirds innings and one-third of an inning respectively.

    The Lady Buccaneers launched one home run on the day. Shelby Martin had a four bagger in the third inning. Dawson scattered nine hits in the game. Maycen O'Neal, Ashlynne Copinga, and Alissa West all managed multiple hits for the Lady Bucs. O'Neal led Dawson with three hits in four at bats.

    Minnesota-Morris tallied ten hits on the day. Olivia Diver and Morgan Mathews each managed multiple hits for Minnesota-Morris.

    Coach LeProwse commented, “We played a little better in this one, but we left a lot of runners in scoring position. Our defense played much better though.”

     

    Five RBI Day for Deven Creech Leads DCC Softball Past North Dakota State College Of Science 13-2

    Deven Creech was an RBI machine on Monday, driving in five on three hits to lead Dawson Community College past North Dakota State College of Science 13-2 on Monday. Creech drove in runs on a home run in the fifth and a grand slam in the sixth. The Lady Bucs tallied six runs in the sixth inning. The offensive firepower by Dawson was led by Riley Arnold, Raquel McAuliffe, and Deven Creech, who all drove in runs. Arnold took the win for DCC. 

    Arnold lasted six innings, allowing four hits and two runs while striking out six and walking one.

    Demi Uffelman took the loss for North Dakota State College of Science. Uffelman allowed 14 hits and 13 runs over six innings, striking out five. Dawson socked four home runs on the day. Maycen O'Neal put one out in the third inning. Creech had a homer in the fifth and sixth innings. Laci Leishman had a long ball in the fifth inning. Lady Buccaneers tallied 14 hits in the game. Emily Curtis, Creech, O'Neal, Leishman, and Arnold each managed multiple hits for Dawson. Creech and Curtis each collected three hits to lead the Lady Buccaneers.

    Coach LeProwse stated, “I was very pleased with the way we came out playing hard in this one. We hit the ball very well and our defense and pitching were very solid. If we continue on this path we should be hard to beat. NDSCS is a very good softball team and they are very well coached, so this is a good win for us.”

     

    Shelby Martin Shuts Out North Dakota State College Of Science 7-0

    Shelby Martin threw a gem on Monday for Dawson Community College Softball, allowing zero runs and besting North Dakota State College of Science by a score of 7-0. Dawson secured the victory thanks to five runs in the third inning. Deven Creech and Laci Leishman powered the big inning with RBIs. Dawson got things moving in the first inning, when Martin doubled on a 1-2 count, scoring two runs. Lady Bucs scored five runs in the third inning. Dawson offense in the inning was led by Creech and Leishman, all knocking in runs in the inning. A single by Sydney Schott in the second inning was a positive for North Dakota State College of Science.

    Martin was credited with the victory for Dawson. The righthander lasted seven innings, allowing five hits and zero runs while striking out eight and walking zero. Schott took the loss for NDSCS. The Lady Bulldog lasted six innings, allowing nine hits and six runs while striking out six and walking one. Dawson smacked two home runs on the day. Creech went for the long ball in the third inning. Leishman went deep in the third inning. Lady Bucs racked up ten hits. Martin, Leishman, and Creech all managed multiple hits for Dawson. Creech, Leishman, and Martin all had two hits to lead Dawson. Schott went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead North Dakota State College of Science in hits.

    Coach LeProwse stated, “This was another great win for us we played well all the way around. I am proud of the way that my team bounced back and competed after our disappointing first game loss of the weekend to Jamestown. I see a lot of great potential and can’t wait to see where we go from here.”
