DCC’s Simon Falokun Signs with University of Tulsa
Simon Falokun signed his National Letter of Intent to play for the University of Tulsa Hurricanes. The 6’9 forward from Houston, TX averaged 16.7 points and 10.3 rebounds per game while shooting 57% from the field. He led the Mon-Dak Conference by averaging 18.7 rebounds per 40 minutes. He was a big part of the Dawson’s success this year in winning 24 games and reaching the Region XIII Championship Game.
According to Falokun, “I thank God for giving me the opportunity to come to Dawson which has helped me become a better player and person. I wish the best for Dawson in the future and I’m really excited to join the Hurricane family at Tulsa. I chose Tulsa because I felt at home on my visit and I know I can help them achieve their goals while I chase my dreams.”
Falokun will be playing for Frank Haith who has averaged 20+ wins a season over his head coaching career, posted 263 victories at the D1 level in high level conference such as the AAC, ACC, Big 12 and SEC, led his teams to the post-season 19 times and was named the 2012 AP National Coach of the Year.
The University of Tulsa has been ranked among the World’s top 20 small Universities and was named a top 50 Private University in the U.S. The Tulsa Basketball Program has been to the NCAA Tournament 16 times, produced 18 All-Americans and 39 NBA Draft Picks and was named one of the top 100 college basketball programs of all-time by the Associated Press. The Hurricanes play in the American Athletic Conference which includes teams like UCONN, Cincinnati, Wichita State, Memphis, Temple and Falokun’s hometown team, University of Houston. Tulsa finished this past year 19-12 and were 12-6 in the AAC.
Dawson Coach Joe Peterson voiced his approval, “I’m so excited for Simon to get such a great opportunity. There were a lot of schools who were interested in him, but I think the history, tradition and success of Tulsa won out. Simon has grown so much as a player, student and person in the past year here in Glendive; and I know he will continue to develop at a fast rate because of his character and work ethic. Tulsa is getting a gem and will be even more happy in the coming years as he continues to progress. We will miss him greatly next year, but this was too good of an opportunity for him to pass up.”
