DCC Men’s Basketball Opens Season with Win
Bucs defeat Storm 104-69
The Dawson Community College Men’s Basketball Team opened up the 2017-2018 season with a 104-69 win over the Nueta Hidatsa Storm. The Buccaneers slowly pulled away in the first half to gain a 53-33 advantage at the break. Simon Falokun helped them get off to a good start scoring inside and outside to put up 9 points to go along with 6 rebounds in the opening half. The Bucs forced 15 turnovers and held the visitors to 41% shooting while shooting 52% on the other end of the court.
The second half saw the Buccaneers continue to build on their lead as they cruised to a 35 point victory. It was a balanced attack with all 12 players for the home team logging at least 10 minutes and everyone getting into the scoring column. There were 5 players in double figures including three who posted 15 points; Brent Finn, Simon Falokun and Aaron Frost. Michele Capasso finished with 13 points and Tyrell Harper had 10 points to go along with 6 rebounds. Falokun led the way on the boards with 13, followed by Reece Green’s 8 and Taylan Barrett’s 7. The Buccaneers held a huge advantage with 63 points off the bench compared to Nueta’s 18. They also had a huge advantage on the boards, winning the battle 59-30, including 25 offensive rebounds.
DCC will return to action on Saturday at home against the Eastern Montana All-Stars which has a roster of former college players. Nueta stays on the road to go and play Montana Tech and UM- Western this weekend.
