Dawson Hammers Rival Miles
The DCC Men’s Basketball team moved to 6-0 on the season by beating rival Miles Community College 106-74. Miles scored the first basket of the game as Andrea LoBiondo gathered an offensive rebound and put it back in for two. Dawson managed to score the next twelve points on two buckets by Travon Hamilton, two inside baskets by Reece Green and a 3-pointer by Tate Savoie. The Pioneers answered back with a 3-pointer by leading scorer Erie Olonade before Hamilton hit another 3-pointer. The Bucs were up 15-5 when they subbed in a fresh 5 who kept the momentum with a few mid-range shots from Fernando Lopez. The Bucs maintained a double digit lead for most of the half and were up 54-37 at the intermission. DCC had 17 second chance points in the first half compared to MCC’s 4. They also shot 49% to the visitor’s 42%.
After a sluggish first half, Brent Finn came out strong in the 2nd and made a two pointer and a three pointer while his running mate on the other wing, Tate Savoie, also made a bucket to put the Bucs up 61-40. The Pioneers never got closer than that in the 2nd half. Dawson won the game 106-74. The Buccaneers bench outscored the Pioneers 55-30 and the Bucs outrebounded them 55-35, which led to 31 second chance points compared to 4 for the Pioneers. All fourteen Buccaneers contributed to the win. There were five who ended up in double figures led by David Shepard and Savoie who had 14 points, Lopez who had 12, Taylan Barrett’s 11 and Finn’s 10. Four of their players had 7 or more rebounds including Michele Capasso, Barrett, Falokun and Green.
DCC Coach Joe Peterson was pleased with the effort, “I thought we played pretty smart, shot the ball well and really controlled the glass. I think our depth really wore them down as the game went on. Coach Tait is a heck of a coach and I’m sure they will be ready for us when we go to Miles City on December 6th.”
The Bucs will go on the road for the first time this season to play in a tournament at Gillette College on Friday and Saturday. On Friday they will face off with Gillette College who is 5-0 and ranked 19th in the country right now. On Saturday they will play Colorado Northwestern. The Bucs will return home on Monday night at 7:30 to play Little Bighorn College.
