Dawson beat Little Bighorn 111-97 in a Wild Contest
The DCC Buccaneers have much to be thankful for this holiday season as they moved to 8-1 with a home win over the Rams of Little Bighorn College. The home team jumped out to a 9-1 lead behind a couple of buckets inside from Simon Falokun and another one inside from Reece Green, followed by a transition basket by Tate Savoie. The Bucs continued to go inside to get baskets and David Shepard came off the bench to score 13 points in the opening half with three 3-pointers. The Bucs dominated the boards 29-15 in the half, including 14 offensive rebounds. Falokun contributed 14 points and 6 rebounds to the cause. The teams went in the locker room at halftime with a score of 58-35 in favor of the home team.
As the 2nd half started, Larry McCormick hit a 3-pointer for Little Bighorn and Brent Finn answered back with a 3-pointer of his own. It looked like Dawson would run away with the game as they built a 31 point lead 87-56, but Little Bighorn fought their way back in the game by making 15 free throws in the final 6 minutes of the game. The visitors shot 28 free throws in the 2nd half of the game compared to 12 for the home team. The closest the Rams ever got was 12 points with 30 seconds remaining. The final outcome was never in question, but did make the final minutes entertaining.
Dawson shot 48% for the game and 42% from the 3-point line (11-26). They dominated the glass 57-33 and had 24 offensive rebounds which led to 22 2nd chance points compared to Little Bighorn’s 2. The Bucs were led by Shepard’s 20 points and Falokun’s 17 points and 13 rebounds. Aaron Frost pitched in 13 points and Taylan Barrett added 12 points and 11 rebounds. All 13 players scored for DCC.
It was DCC’s 7th game in the past 11 days and they won 6 of them. They will get a much needed break for Thanksgiving before going on the road Sunday and Monday. Their next home game will be on December 8th. The game times for those games have been changed to 3:30 pm for the Men’s Game and 5:30 pm for the Women’s Game against Northwest College.
