Dawson Bucs Back to Winning Ways
The Dawson Buccaneers got back to their winning ways on Saturday afternoon in Twin Falls, Idaho beating the Colorado Northwestern Community College Spartans 91-73. The Bucs are now 8-2 on the season. The two teams shot similar percentages in the game, but Dawson was +12 in the turnover column and +9 in free throws made.
In the first half, the game produced 5 ties and 7 lead changes, but Dawson took control by forcing 11 turnovers and scoring 14 points off of them, compared to CNCC’s 0. The Bucs also beat them in 2nd chance points in the opening half 10-0. The lead grew to 11 with 33 seconds remaining before CNCC made a 3-pointer to bring them within 8 points at 48-40 going into half-time. Charlie Kruer was the spark for Dawson as he scored 10 points off the bench during the run, including two 3-pointers and a monster breakaway dunk.
Dawson couldn’t miss to start the second half as they scored on every possession in the first four minutes, growing their lead from 8 points to 27 points. They controlled the second half with CNCC only getting as close as 12 points the rest of the way and Dawson secured the 18 point win. The Bucs had big advantages for the game in points in the paint (36-22), points off turnovers (22-8), and 2nd chance points (18-4). Eleven of the twelve players for Dawson scored and all twelve got into the rebounding column. The Buccaneers bench scored 43 of their 91 points.
“This was a good bounce back game for us,” shared Dawson Coach Joe Peterson. “We shared the ball well, didn’t turn it over, and we got big contributions off the bench. Charlie, Aleksis, Roniel and Fish all impacted the game dramatically when they came in. It’s been a good weekend for us. I’m excited to see the progress next week.”
Chris Davidson led the way for Dawson with a game high 21 points and 7 rebounds. He was followed closely by Aidan Fishell’s 18 points.
Isaiah West led CNCC with 17 points.
Dawson will play next weekend at the Gillette College Border Wars where they will take on three tough Region IX teams on consecutive days.
